Program Note: Girlfriend combines the capabilities of the flute and the cello to create a specific timbral palette. The piece uses microtonal tunings created by pitch-matching to create beating. The players move closer to and further from each other in pitch, constantly relying on their ears and physical reactions to inform their musical choices.
