Program Note: Hedgerow focuses on the homogeneity of saxophone quartet. The instruments are interdependent and equally important. Close pitches, interlocking patterns, and articulations are used to create constant intrinsic motion within larger structures and textures. When coming up with a title for the piece, I was reminded of the dense hedgerows of my rural home county in the United Kingdom. From a distance, they look tall and green, but close up, they are full of exuberant detail.
