More Frogs

Instrumentation: alto or tenor saxophone, percussion, small bags of marbles for the audience

Tech: various pedals, mics for amplification / recording, max patch to play back fixed and captured sound.

Year: 2023 | Duration: ~10'

Written for Popebama for Splice Institute 2023

Program Note: More Frogs is an improvisational piece for percussion, sax, and electronics, intended to celebrate the music created by different types of frogs. The piece was inspired by the night sounds I hear walking around my neighborhood in Baton Rouge, Louisiana. Before the piece starts, each audience member is given a small bag of marbles. Towards the end of the piece, they are instructed to join the performers in creating the soundscape. The field recordings used in the piece are from my nighttime walks.
