Sunday Routine was written for the 2025 line upon line percussion Winter Composers Festival. Matt and Cullen invited us to perform with them, so I wrote the piece for percussion duo and unseen narrator. The narrator and percussionists guide the audience through a sunday scene that includes storm sounds, magazines, and a dice game. The narrator introduces absurdity and theatricality while also creating a clear line of communication with the audience. The musicians reinforce this communication through demonstration and collaboration. This helps the audience to enjoy the playfulness of the piece without focusing on performing ‘correctly’.
